Little Valentines Coliving

In an age of increasing urban isolation, Little Valentines offers a quiet response to loneliness – a carefully considered living environment that creates subtle opportunities for human connection.

The Art of Accidental Encounters

Urban living often breeds disconnection, resulting in a silent epidemic of loneliness. Individuals may inhabit close quarters yet feel isolated. Little Valentines confronts this challenge by creating spaces that naturally foster interaction without forcing it.

Our approach is both understated and intentional:

  • Thoughtfully designed shared spaces that invite engagement

  • Diverse environments that cater to various social needs

  • Architectural elements that facilitate connection in a gentle manner

Sustainability at the Core

We prioritise sustainability through the preservation of four early 20th-century houses, embracing a conscientious approach to urban living that includes:

  • Adaptive reuse of existing architectural heritage

  • Zero carbon design principles

  • Innovative rainwater reuse systems

  • A car-free environment

  • Bike-friendly infrastructure

Architecture of Engagement

A bird's-eye view of a modern multi-story residential complex with green roofs, landscaped outdoor areas, and surrounding trees.

We explored a number of traditional methods of creating engagement, such as courtyards, cloisters, and covered but open areas, but we've added a new twist to them. Key features include:

  1. Zigzag cloister enhancing transitions between spaces.

  2. An open but sheltered entrance welcoming residents and visitors.

  3. A main communal space with 'sub-zones' for diverse activities.

  4. Kitchen clusters for intimate conversations.

  5. A laundry 'hangout' area for social interaction.

  6. Select private gardens to offer personal retreats.

Beyond Four Walls

The development boasts:

  • Two co-working rooms, thoughtfully designed for productivity

  • A café that welcomes both residents and guests

  • A highly biodiverse roof garden

  • Interconnected indoor and semi-outdoor spaces

These areas cultivate a dialogue with the wider community, allowing for natural and unforced interactions.
